Massachusetts Community College & ELEVATE Northeast Launch Cannabis Core Curriculum Program

Weekend-long online training program created to provide educational foundation and valuable networking for careers in fast-growing cannabis business

BOSTON, MA, September 29, 2020 – Enrollment is open for the new ,Cannabis Core Curriculum program developed by Holyoke Community College in partnership with ELEVATE Northeast Events and Education, Inc. The two-day educational training program for students and professionals interested in working in the legal cannabis industry takes place online October 17-18, 2020.

Offered through the college’s Cannabis Education Center, each day is divided into two interactive sessions that include presentations from cannabis industry experts followed by a question and answer period. Students who complete the core training will then be eligible to register for spring 2021 classes in one of four cannabis industry career tracks: cultivation assistant, extraction technician, patient services associate, and culinary assistant.

“We designed this program to be both broad and basic with plenty of historic, business, and science information to help students develop the informed perspective they’ll need to determine where their skills and interests best fit in the cannabis industry,” said Cara Crabb-Burnham, director of education at ELEVATE Northeast. “ELEVATE is excited and grateful to bring the new core curriculum program to HCC, and I am looking forward to teaching again!”

A previous series of cannabis industry training courses offered by HCC and the Cannabis Education Center was suspended in the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The cost to attend the two-day core training program is $595.

“HCC is proud to partner with Elevate to help job seekers get the training they need to successfully enter the cannabis industry,” said Jeffrey Hayden, HCC vice president of Business and Community Services. “At the same time, we look forward to enhancing and expanding our relationships with cannabis companies in Holyoke and other communities throughout the region. Our goal is to help individuals gain employment while meeting the demand of area businesses.”
